Privacy Policy

David D. Karnowski, an independent developer (individual / sole proprietor) based in the United States ("we", "us"), makes Spiralyst Lab and operates spiralyst.com (the "Site"). We built Spiralyst Lab to respect your privacy. This policy explains what we do — and mostly don't — collect.

The short version

  • The app collects nothing. No account, no telemetry, no analytics, no phone-home.
  • Your audio never leaves your Mac. It is analyzed live to drive visuals and is never recorded, saved, or transmitted by us.
  • The only data we handle is your purchase, and that goes through PayPal, plus the email we use to send your license key.
  • We don't sell or rent your information. Ever.

The Spiralyst Lab application

Spiralyst Lab runs entirely on your Mac. It does not create an account, does not include analytics or usage tracking, and does not send data to us or any third party in normal operation.

Audio captured from your system audio or an audio input device (such as a microphone or interface) is processed in real time, on your device, solely to generate visuals, and is discarded — it is not written to disk or transmitted by us. Files you create (videos, images, presets) are saved only where you choose to save them, on your device.

The website (spiralyst.com)

The Site is a static website. By default it does not use analytics or non-essential cookies. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, request time, and user agent) for security and operations, as is typical for any web server; we use these only to keep the Site running and secure.

Purchases and license delivery (PayPal)

When you buy Spiralyst Lab, payment is processed by PayPal. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details. PayPal acts as the controller of the payment information you provide to it; see PayPal's own privacy policy for how it handles your data.

To deliver and support your license, we receive and retain limited order information from PayPal — such as your name, the email address associated with your order, and transaction details — and the license key we issue and its expiry. We keep this to deliver your key, provide support, handle renewals and refunds, and meet record-keeping/tax obligations.

How we use the limited data we hold

  • To deliver your license key and the download.
  • To provide customer support and handle refunds.
  • To send you your license/renewal information.
  • To keep required business and tax records.
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse of license keys.

We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

Legal bases (EEA / UK)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process this limited order data to perform our contract with you (delivering and supporting your license), to comply with legal obligations (such as tax and record-keeping), and for our legitimate interests (operating the business securely and preventing fraud or abuse of license keys).

Sharing

We share data only as needed to run the business: with PayPal (payment processing), with our email/hosting providers acting on our behalf, and where required by law. We do not otherwise disclose your information.

Retention

We keep order and license records for as long as needed to support you and to meet legal/tax obligations, then delete or anonymize them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email support@spiralyst.com. We'll respond as required by applicable law.

Children

Spiralyst Lab is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

International users

We operate from the United States. If you use the Site or app from elsewhere, you understand your information may be processed in the United States and other places where we and our providers operate.

Changes

We may update this policy. We'll change the "Last updated" date above, and we'll note material changes in our release notes or on the Site.
